HDay is on a whole other level. I'm not sure why I hadn't attended this event before but as I started watching all their Pre-Event social media posts I figured I needed to check out this event.
It was sold as the largest Honda event on the East Coast and it definitely didn't disappoint. On the drag racing side, it's been a long while since I had seen so many fast Honda's. When I say fast, I mean they're in the 7s down the 1320, which is crazy.
I was expecting to see cars go into the 9s or maybe even the 8s, but for Honda's to break the traps at over 200mph and to be in the 7s was an incredible sight.
It was a good thing this event spanned multiple days, with the drag racing part running 3 days. A couple days of qualifying, working it down to the fastest Honda's in each class. I have to admit I did find myself spending more time in the burnout box and watching all these cars fly off the line.
With this many cars there was more then a handful that had issues making it all the way down the track. Another impressive thing was watching the track crew, with spotters watching for any fluid or debris on the track. There was a constant up and down with them running their scooters to check the surface and for them to bring out multiple tractor type machines to clean up anything that made its way onto the track
So between clean up session and the multiple rounds of qualifying I had to find time to walk through the absolutely massive parking/show area. When I say massive they again sold that they had more then 1000+ show cars
And that was a correct statement.
Now I'll agree with those that argue that this was a bulk amount of show cars vs a hand selected curated grouping of Honda's.
Now for me I don't have any issue with this it just means I have to hunt out the hidden gems.
Sometimes it's in the details of what parts or one of customization and for me I find this hunt fun. So it was time to walk the rows and rows of cars. The amount of cars again was incredible and went well with the craziness of the all the drag cars, which were their own set of show cars with how impressive they were built
One thing that was new to me was this stereo setup where they took the speaker cabinets out of the cars and placed them on the roof, and running a cable to a control box. This was interesting and loud, lol. The volume they were getting was like being at a concert or a club.
I have to say I had a blast being back at MIR since this is the track I grew up at and it was great seeing how much love there still is for the Honda brand. The East Coast has a style to their own and I had a blast seeing how they built fast Honda's. I can't wait to get back and see more. That have to wait for the Cool Collective meet and Wekfest NJ which I figure will help round out most of the best cars on the East.
Here are my YouTube vids from the weekend I had to break them up. One for the show the other for the drags.
Enjoy!!
